CyberTherapy 2003 is the evolution of the original VR and Mental Health Symposium held during the last six years as a part of the Medicine Meets Virtual Reality Conference (MMVR).

MMVR began in 1992 to nurture interactive computer technology-virtual reality-as a means to advance patient care and physician education. Today, the conference provides an innovative forum for data acquisition, processing, and delivery methods. These, in their medical utilization, improve accuracy in diagnosis, refine therapeutic precision, and enhance medical education and procedural training.

The conference features a broad spectrum of topics, including stereoscopic projection for improved understanding of medical images, surgical simulation with haptic feedback for more effective training, data networks for telemedicine, robotics to refine the surgeon's touch, sensors and data visualization to facilitate differential diagnosis, and augmented reality to extend the clinician's vision.

In 2003, MMVR proceeds into its second decade as the premier educational conference for computer scientists, physicians and surgeons, IT and medical device professionals, and educators to share research and expertise, and to create new tools for the art of medicine.

As the Information Age matures, MMVR expands its purpose to support the integration of information technology with biological and physical sciences for a future of improved health care. This expanded purpose permits the MMVR community to fuse its data-focused innovation with areas such as:

  • micro- and nanotechnology for sensors and robotics
  • optical technology for tissue imaging and biopsy
  • biomaterials for tissue repair and replacement
  • genomic, proteomic, and pharmacological imaging
  • neuro-silicon interfaces
  • non-invasive surgery

To help interested researchers in attending both the conferences, CyberTherapy 2003 is scheduled just a couple of days before of the MMVR event (22-25 January 2003) and in a location (San Diego, CA) that is just an hour drive from the MMVR one (Newport Beach, CA)
