PRECONFERENCE WORKSHOPS

Workshop Chair: Stephane Bouchard, Ph.D.

This year, the Cybertherapy Conference will hold three pre-conference
workshops on January 9, 2004:

1. Introduction to Clinical Virtual Reality
(9 to 11 am on Friday, January 9th, 2004)

Workshop leaders: Stephane Bouchard and Mark Wiederhold.

Aim: Provide complete information on basic topics such as VR equipment, cybersickness, presence and other technical aspects of VR.

Important notice: If you are new to the field of VR, you may want to consider this workshop as a tutorial. These basic topics will not be discussed in presentations at the general conference (January 10-12, 2004).

2. Advanced workshop on the applications of VR
for Anxiety and Eating Disorders

(12:30 to 2:30 pm on Friday January 9th 2004).

Workshop leaders: Cristina Botella, Stephane Bouchard, Giuseppe Riva, and Brenda K. Wiederhold.

Aims: (a) present data driven material that is representative of the current state of research and knowledge in these fields, and (b) familiarize the participants with the clinical applications of VR in the field (e.g., how to use VR in clinical practice).

Important notice: prior experience with VR or attendance at the introduction workshop is mandatory. Basic VR concepts will not be covered in this workshop.

3. Advanced workshop on the applications of VR
for Neuropsychology, Rehabilitation, Drug Abuse, and Pain

(3 to 5 pm on Friday January 9th 2004).

Workshop leaders: Alex Bullinger, Walter Greenleaf, Hunter Hoffman, and Skip Rizzo.

Important notes:

All workshops will rely strongly on empirical data but will also provide practical training. They are planned to provide an equal balance between rigorous science and clinical relevance. In addition, comprehensive handouts will include a copy of the PowerPoint presentations as well as excerpts from key scientific papers.

• All workshops will last for two hours, including the breaks.

• The number of participants will be limited between 20 to 30 people.

• The registration fees for the Cybertherapy Conference do not include the registration to any of the pre-conference workshops.
